Breakfast at De Dutch in Vancouver, BC
My Dutch Pancake, a Pannekoeken, had a side of cheesecake filling and strawberries, and whipped cream!
De Dutch is a Canadian breakfast chain that first opened in 1975. For fifty years they've been serving tasty and traditional Dutch food. We visited for breakfast on the first morning of our trip. We ate at the Burrard Landing location, which was about a five-minute walk from our hotel. We first had Dutch food when we visited the Netherlands years ago. We tried the pancakes, Pannekoeken, and loved how big and thin they were. There's also so many options for toppings. You can go either savory or sweet, depending on what you're in the mood for.
Their Burrard Landing offers gorgeous views of the mountains and water as you eat, and they do have outdoor seating. We dined inside, after a ten-minute wait. My husband started with a Caesar to drink. This traditional Canadian drink is similar to a Bloody Mary but has clamato juice. They have a kid's menu, so our boys ordered from that. One had the French Toast and the other had a plate with eggs, breakfast potatoes, bacon, and sourdough toast.
I ordered a Pannekoeken with sweet toppings. I chose the cheesecake one with strawberries and whipped cream. It was really thin and took up my whole plate. I shared with my son, and he loved it. This breakfast item is a very enjoyable one and brought back sweet memories from our trip to Amsterdam. My husband had the Boer's Breakfast which came with two eggs, ham, bacon, hash browns, toast, and a small Pannekoeken. This was a huge breakfast, and he really enjoyed it.
De Dutch was on my Vancouver food list for a while. I'm so glad we finally visited and indulged in our Dutch food cravings. You can never go wrong with ordering a Pannekoeken!
