Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Dinner at Glowbal in Vancouver, BC

The Bubble Bath cocktail from Glowbal! With a tableside presentation of poured bubbles using a smoking gun into the "bath" glass, this drink is a must-order at Glowbal.

For dinner during our overnight to Vancouver, our family dined at Glowbal in downtown. This high-end restaurant is dimly lit, and hospitality is wonderful here. The cocktails are unique with a tableside presentation. The menu has small and sharable plates and entrees which include seafood and steak. My sons hadn't experienced many nice places like this, so they were surprised when our server gracefully put our napkins in our lap and expertly recited the specials.

We shared some Brioche Bread with a whipped butter, the Black Truffle Fries, the Foie Gras Pate, and the Crispy Humbolt Calamari. They do have a kid's menu, so my son chose the Fettuccini Alfredo. It was under seasoned and a little on the al dente side for him. The house-baked Brioche was soft and a little sweet from the tarragon emulsion. The fries were packed with flavor from the black truffles, and we really enjoyed the Foie Gras Pate. This was served with a side of brioche and consisted of candied hazelnuts and porcini charcoal crumbs. Really fancy, but also really delicious!

For cocktails, I ordered the Bubble Bath drink. I've had several cocktails like this before where my drink arrived in a little bath cup. These are so fun! This version at Glowbal had tequila, peach schnapps, passion fruit syrup, lime juice, and egg white. It was a sweet and fruity cocktail, which I like. The fun and unique aspect of the cocktail was the server used a smoking gun (used for adding a garnish with a flourish) when she delivered my drink. The smoking gun created many bubbles on my drink to create a drinkable bubble bath! There was even a little rubber ducky for extra cuteness!

My husband's drink was the Extravaganza cocktail. This was a blue drink using dry ice, which was poured tableside by our server. This drink had reposado, hpnotiq, st-germain, lime juice, blue spirulina syrup, and then it was chilled with the jetchill dry ice system. It was a small drink for the price, but the presentation was fun!

Glowbal has an upscale and international feel, and I would definitely call it fine dining. This spot would be perfect for a date night or girls' night out in downtown Vancouver. They have a happy hour and some great Brunch deals, too. We had fun dining at Glowbal during our trip, since it had a different feel than our local Seattle spots.
