Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

A Stay at The Burrard in Downtown Vancouver, BC

Check out this contemporary boutique hotel located in downtown Vancouver!

My family and I stayed one night at The Burrard Hotel. They're locally and independently owned and have a rich history. It used to be a Moter Inn but have since renovated and now there's an art deco vibe. The rooms are set up motel style with access from the outside, which overlooks a lush green garden space with plenty of palm trees. They trees look cool at night with tons of lights, and Vancouver's skyscrapers shine all around.

In the garden, with access from the second floor, you can hang out in the garden space where there's fire pits, lawn games, and lots of seating. It was pouring during our visit, so we couldn't chill there. There are four floors, and we were on the top floor. Unfortunately, the elevator wasn't working, so we had to use the stairs. The front desk people offered their assistance if it was needed with luggage.

There was fun vintage art around the lobby and in the rooms. I enjoyed the Barbie and Ken art in the lobby and the Fallen Princess art of Cinderella in our room. The room was nice and pretty standard for Vancouver hotels. The bathroom was small and didn't have much counter space and was kind of old fashioned, save for some modern touches. The beds were low, and on the smaller and harder side. The room looked nice though and wasn't too small. There was a mini fridge and a Nespresso machine. The parking is $30 in the garage, but we had free parking from an Expedia deal.

They don't have a continental breakfast, but they do have an Elysian Coffee in the hotel. We got some croissants that were awesome, really flakey and buttery. Mine was a Raspberry Almond that was so good! Vancouver is filled to the brim with really good coffee shops that have amazing croissants.

The Burrard Hotel worked out great for our overnight. The price was really reasonable and a lot less than the other places we've stayed in Downtown Vancouver. The art and the neat views of the garden and palm trees were my favorite part!
