A Visit to the 2024 Washington State Fair

A Mac and Cheese Smash Burger and a Deep-Fried S'more on a stick from the WA State Fair!

The end of summer in the Seattle area means its Fair time! The Washington State Fair in Puyallup runs from August 30th through September 22nd. My family and I went on the first day because admission was free if you brought a canned food item and arrived by 12:30 pm. It was a little tight, I think we arrived at about 12:15 or so, but we did save about $55! Parking in the lot across the street is $25, so we parked for free in the neighborhood, near the high school. It was about a ten-minute walk to the fairground entrance.

But what we saved on admission and parking, I spent on ride and game tickets. I went immediately to my favorite ride, the Classic Coaster. This wooden roller coaster is the most thrilling and fun ride at the WA State Fair. The line was about twenty minutes, so not bad. It was just as awesome as last time I rode it two years ago. I tried to ride this coaster last year, but it broke down. Our boys rode the bumper cars for the first time and loved it. There were also some smaller rides in Smallville that they enjoyed.

The food prices are pretty steep again this year. This year we tried a Mac and Cheese Smashburger and a Deep-Fried S'more on a stick for our lunch. My son and husband also tried some Chicken Teriyaki that ended up being expensive and tasted mid. And my other son had Deep-Fried Oreos, which are his favorite at these types of events. We ended up really enjoying the Smashburger. It had Mac and Cheese and pickles, and I thought it was about perfect. The Deep-Fried S'more surprised us all by how tasty and unique it was. It was incredibly messy, and I had melted marshmallow all over my hands, along with some melted chocolate! This was such a good Fair lunch!

We played some games and my sons and I actually won some stuffed animals this year. I won a small Hello Kitty I was pleased as punch about! We all shared a giant bag of Cotton Candy. It was $11 which seemed like a lot, for sure, what it's such a classic fair treat.

After riding some more rides, we caught a neat kid's Science show by the Smallville area. I was actually chosen to go up on stage with Professor Smart. My son was raising his hand to volunteer, but they wanted someone with long hair instead. He said, "how about the girl in the white Hello Kitty shirt"? I was so embarrassed to go on stage, but it ended up being so fun and silly. I had to stand on a stool and touch a big silver ball. Then we waited to watch my hair stick up everywhere! My son loved seeing me up there on stage and it's a core memory for him now.

It was a really hot day and we were thirsty after the science show. So we got a Dole Whip Float. It was so good, tart, sweet, and satisfying. There was pineapple juice, Dole Whip, and fresh pineapple slices. This was also $11. By then, the rest of my family was ready to go home and call it a day. I could have easily stayed another hour, but the day was hot, everyone was thirsty and had sore legs from walking all over the fairgrounds.

We had so much fun again this year at the WA State Fair!
