A Birthday Brunch at Rookies Sports Bar and Grill
Baked French Toast with Raspberry Compote, whipped cream, and a side of bacon at Rookies in Columbia City!
Tucked away in Seattle's Columbia City neighborhood is Rookies Sports Bar and Grill. This all-ages sports bar and grill gets packed during Sunday Brunch. You can watch sports on multiple screens, either in the dining room or the bar. We went to brunch here to celebrate our sons' birthday. We got one of the last available tables, a cozy booth. Their prices are really reasonable, especially in these times. Their cocktail list is fun, with boozy brunch drinks like spiked hot chocolate, Bloody Mary's, and Espresso Martinis.
I started with a Hazelnut Smores drink. This was a boozy hot chocolate with Crater Lake Hazelnut Espresso vodka, toasted marshmallow syrup, and whipped cream and graham cracker crumbs on top. This warm drink was as good as it sounded. The temperature was perfect, not too hot, and you could taste how rich and chocolaty it was. My husband had a Rookies Bloody, because Bloody Mary's are his favorite brunch drink. We also shared an Espresso Martini which was on the creamier side.
To eat, our boys ordered off the kid's menu. One son had the Mini Pancakes and our other son had a Grilled Cheese and Fries. I ordered the Baked French Toast with a side of bacon. Their French Toast is covered in a sweet and tart Raspberry Compote and was topped with blueberries and whipped cream. It hit the spot! The presentation was also nice. My husband had the Biscuits and Gravy which came with two sunny side up eggs and breakfast potatoes. He also had fried chicken on his biscuits. He really liked his meal but would have liked extra gravy!
I told the server it was our boys' birthday, and she brought out a complimentary bowl of cookies and vanilla ice cream with a candle! It was so sweet, and they enjoyed their birthday treat!
Rookies is a fun and casual spot for a meal with tasty food and cocktails. It does get pretty loud, but that's to be expected since it's a sports bar. The prices are good here, too! The cocktails were around $10 or $11 and my Baked French Toast was the same.
