Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Wine Tasting at White Raven Winery in Columbia Falls, MT

My five, one-ounce wine pours, from White Raven Winery.

During our trip to Columbia Falls, MT, my husband and I went wine tasting with my mom to the White Raven Winery.  You wouldn't think an area like rural Montana would have a winery, but you'd be surprised. They make all of their wines on site, and six of them are made with MT grapes. White Ravens are rare, just like this MT winery, hence the name White Raven Winery.

The tasting room has lots of seating and the walls are graced in animals the owner Dan has hunted. A rustic tasting room that fits with the vibe of the Flathead Valley, I wouldn't have expected anything different. Go right up to the counter and the friendly staff with give you a clipboard with the various wine pours. They'll explain each one and you can choose five to try. For $10 you get five glasses with one-ounce pours.

We took a seat and before we knew it, the three of us were presented with our wine flights. I tried three red wines, one Rose, and one Huckleberry Spritzer. The last two were a little sweet for me, since I prefer full bodied and dry red wines. When we were done drinking our wine, one of the helpful employees, Wil gave us a tour of where the magic happens. The area they make the wines is full of wine barrels and wine-making equipment. Wil explained how they make the wine and everything that's involved. It was fun and interesting and added so much to our wine tasting experience.

This was only my third time wine tasting. I've done so in Woodinville and Sequim, WA. It definitely won't be my last time, as I enjoy wine! Check out this Columbia Falls winery if you're passing through the area.
