Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Lunch at The Huckleberry Patch in Hungry Horse, MT

A slice of iconic Huckleberry Pie with a huge scoop of creamy vanilla ice cream!

My favorite place to grab a slice of Huckleberry Pie Ala Mode in Montana, other than my mom's kitchen, is The Huckleberry Patch. Located along Highway 2 in the tiny town of Hungry Horse, on the way to Glacier National Park, you'll find this mecca for huckleberry lovers.

They recently renovated their gift shop and cafe, and I couldn't wait to visit and check it out. The gift shop is as huge as ever, chock full of MT souvenirs and lots and lots of fudge. Hungry for a meal? They have a counter service cafe filled with burgers, sandwiches, and where you'll find a famous slice of huckleberry pie, ice cream, and shakes. And you can't miss trying pretty much anything with huckleberries if you visit this part of the country.

We had good luck with Chicken Tenders on this trip. All the ones we tried hit different. The ones at The Huckleberry Patch, served with Crinkle Fries and a creamy Ranch sauce, were no exception. Since I also got pie, I decided to split the Tenders with my son. My other son got a Bacon Cheeseburger which ended up being too much food for him, but it tasted great the next day.

My husband treated himself to a Monte Cristo Sandwich with Crinkle Fries, and it came with a Huckleberry Sauce for the jam part of the sando. Monto Cristo's are so good since they have ham, turkey, and Swiss cheese, topped with powdered sugar, and jam. It's sweet meets savory all in a sandwich.

Then it was time for my fav part of the meal, the Huckleberry Pie with ice cream. One bite of this sweet, tart pie, and I was in flavor heaven. The vanilla ice cream goes incredibly well with the pie, probably one of the world's best food combinations.

The cafe did get pretty busy, and we waited in line to order our lunch about thirty minutes. But it was definitely worth it for that pie!
