Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Dinner at Monaco Steakhouse in Columbia Falls, MT

The Seared Ahi Tuna from Monaco Steakhouse in Columbia Falls!

On our last night in town, we dined with my mom at Monaco Steakhouse. They opened last year, and we couldn't wait to try it out. They have a full bar on one side, and a dining room on the other side. Golf fan will love it, since they even have rooms with golf simulators. I started with a Huckleberry Margarita and my husband had a classic Margarita. Both drinks were made perfectly, and I loved the fresh huckleberries on top of my drink.

We started with some Garlic Parmesan Chicken Wings to share. We all liked how tasty these wings were. The chicken was hot and tender, and the coating was crispy and flavorful. For my main, I went with the Seared Ahi Tuna. This dish was Pan Seared Ahi Tuna with a citrus soy reduction, house pickled ginger, and topped with spicy jalapenos. The jalapenos made it really spicy, but the ginger freshened up the dish and helped with the spiciness.

My mom had a steak with some creamy looking mashed potatoes and my husband ordered the Chicken Sandwich. My sons each got some Chicken Tenders. The order was huge for each of them, so we definitely enjoyed some the next day on the road. These tenders were even good cold, out of our cooler.

Monaco Steakhouse's interior felt like an upscale MT steakhouse, with a cozy fireplace and rustic art. The views of downtown Columbia Falls were also nice, as the modern buildings are on the newer side and definitely weren't there when I lived there.

I'm thankful my hometown has so many solid dining choices now, so when we visit, we can check them all out! This is a really nice pick for dinner, especially if you like handcrafted cocktails with meat and potato options-great MT comfort food!
