A Visit to Redmond, WA

I recently visited Redmond since it had been years since we last went. There's a lot of family friendly things to do. We started at Marymoor Park which is the oldest park in King County. There's a playground for the kids, and even a cool windmill to look at.

Then we had happy hour at Woodblock. This restaurant has small plates, cocktails, and more all in a rustic setting in the heart of Redmond. I started with a One Flew Over the Cookie Jar drink. This unique Old Fashioned arrived topped with a wood glass cover and a cookie. When I removed the cover and the cookie, the smoke was released from the cocktail. We had a variety of small plates from the happy hour menu. We tried the Burrata, the Garlic Chicken Wings, and the Duck and Chicken Liver Mousse.

Our boys ordered some Mac and Cheese from the kid's menu. It was the fancy kind with Penne Pasta and several rich cheeses. Our three small plates were solid dishes. The Burrata cheese was soft and creamy. The wings were pretty standard chicken wings with a little bit of heat and the coating on the wings were crispy. The liver mouse was maybe my favorite. It was salty, but in a good way, and packed with flavor. The mousse arrived in a small jar and served with pieces of crostini. Just spread the mousse on the crostini, and voila, instant decadence.

After dinner we drove a few minutes to the Redmond Town Center. This outdoor mall is always fun to check out. They have a lot of stores suited to families such as bookstores, toy stores, dessert shops, a Guitar Center, and more. We grabbed some ice cream at Cold Stone Creamery. We selected some chocolate with brownie and chocolate chips, which they mix in. I then chose to have it in a waffle bowl in a Despicable Me 4 cup.

This was a fun outing to Redmond, WA. This summer we've been getting out and about, checking out other WA cities and other Seattle neighborhoods, and it's been a blast!
