Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Mother's Day Brunch at Portage Bay Cafe in West Seattle

The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes from Portage Bay Cafe!

Happy Mother's Day! To celebrate, my family and I had brunch at Portage Bay Cafe in West Seattle. This is a fun and lively spot with locations around Seattle. I've had brunch at their South Lake Union one years ago, and I remembered the food being really good. They do get really busy on weekends, so making a reservation is a great idea. When we arrived, they were packed, and even with a reservation we waited about fifteen minutes to be sat. Then we were seated inside at a good spot right by the window. A win-win!

At Portage Bay Cafe they serve local, organic breakfast and lunch items. Don't miss the toppings bar, where you can top your pancakes, French Toast, or oatmeal with lots of scrumptious items. There's a variety of fresh fruit, coconut, chocolate chips, nuts, and whipped cream!

I started with a refreshing Marionberry Mimosa and to eat, I chose the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes and a side of the Chicken Sausage. The pancakes came with three and were topped with a pretty raspberry lemon curd sauce and a side of whipped cream. I visited the toppings bar and selected fresh fruit, coconut, and chocolate chips. The chocolate chips were a good idea and they soon melted on top of the pancakes, making my brunch a decedent one.

My husband ordered the Huevos Rancheros. They arrived with two corn tortillas, two eggs, Mole Verde, spicy beans, queso diablo, and pickled onion. He also ordered some Chicken Sausage, and he was able to add some avocado to his dish. Our boys ordered some pancakes from the kid's menu, and they arrived shaped like a cute bear. The boys had fun choosing their toppings from the toppings bar, and they were mainly fans of the chocolate chips like me!

This was a fun and definitely delicious Mother's Day brunch!
