Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Lunch at Tacofino in Vancouver, BC

A Surfrider Margarita cocktail from Tacofino Taco Bar in Gastown.

Before we left Vancouver to go home, we had lunch at Tacofino in Gastown. Tacofino is a local spot in Vancouver with multiple locations. They originally started in the back of a surf shop in Tofino, BC, selling burritos and tacos.

Their cuisine is West Coast inspired and the menu is mostly Mexican cuisine. They have some notable drinks such as the Surfrider Margarita, which I chose. This bright blue drink with a salted rim has Cazadores Blanco, agave, and house made curacao. My husband chose a yummy cocktail- the Apple Cinnamon Margarita. This drink has cinnamon infused Cazadores Blanco, amaretto, apple juice, fresh lime, agave, and apple spice bitters. Both were fantastic drinks!

To eat, my son chose the Chicken Wings and he raved about them. My husband had the Chicken Tacos, and I chose the Quesa Birria. They had braised lamb, Oaxaca cheese, red onions, and cilantro. These weren't my favorite Birria Tacos, but they did the job. These were a little too salty, and I didn't love the red onions.

The interior at Tacofino shined. There was lots of seating and the bar area looked beautiful. Our server was sweet and friendly. This is one of Gastown's most notable spots to grab a bite and a cocktail, and now I can see why!
