Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Dinner at La Palmera for their Seattle Christmas Cantina

A Winter Spritz cocktail from La Palmera in Seattle.

Tis' the season for holiday pop-ups at bars and restaurants, and we are here for it. This year in Seattle, there's quite a few of these Christmas-themed restaurants, and they're even family-friendly. In the past, there were only a couple pop-ups, and they were both at bars, making it tricky if you have a family and no sitter. Last week, we checked out Tinsel Town at Wooden City in Green Lake. They went all out 'holiday' there, so our expectations were high for La Palmera, a Mexican spot in SLU.

The La Palmera holiday pop-up, Seattle Christmas Cantina, was a lot more understated, but still festive and fun. They have a menu of Christmas Cocktails. We tried the Grinch Punch and a Winter Spritz. Both drinks were really cute and tasted amazing. The Grinch Punch was green and had Peach Schnapps, melon liqueur, Jamison Irish Whiskey, sour juice, and lime soda. It was really refreshing and the glass it came in was super cute! The Winter Spritz had Vodka, ginger beer, cranberry juice, and was garnished with cranberries and rosemary. This cocktail was really Christmasy and came in a glass with a Christmas tree on it.

To eat, we ordered the Chicken Chimichanga and the Barbacoa Tacos. These tacos are similar to Birria Tacos, but it doesn't come with any Consommé soup you'd normally dip them into. They also brought out complimentary chips and salsa. The salsa was really spicy! The food was really hot and came out quickly.

They have lots of seating, with an upstairs area. Parking is tricky since it's in South Lake Union and just street parking. They also have a happy hour with a pretty large bar area. We made reservations, but it wasn't too busy. This area of Seattle gets busier on weekdays. Check out La Palmera in SLU, especially if you like Mexican food and Christmastime!
