Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

My Birthday Dinner at The Star Portland

Cheese pull time! A Pepperoni deep dish from The Star in Portland.

We left Florence, OR on my birthday, but we stopped in Portland for dinner. Portland is an incredible city for pizza, so I chose to eat at The Star Portland. They're located in the Pearl District. They have all types of pizza. From thin crust to deep-dish, and even Detroit style. Their deep dish looked too good to be true, so I had to try it out. The Star Portland is dark and has lounge vibes but is family friendly.

They have a full bar, and lots of appetizers and small plates, too. But we just wanted pizza and drinks, so we got to ordering. We arrived right as they were getting busy. By the time we ordered our food, the place was getting packed, and our server was working super hard. We waited a while, but finally my deep-dish pizza arrived. I dug in, then I realized it was the wrong pizza. Whoops, our server gave me someone else's pizza. So, they ended up bring me the correct pizza, which was the Pepperoni deep-dish. Then I had two! The one they accidentally brought was the classic deep-dish with sausage, mushrooms, and green peppers.

It slapped! If you've never had deep dish pizza, its thick and full of cheese, with the sauce on top and the toppings underneath. Which is why I couldn't tell which pizza I was eating at first! Then I tried the Pepperoni, and it was even better than the other pizza. It was piping hot, and the first slice gave me a nice cheese pull! This was one tasty Birthday dinner. To drink, I chose a Cruel Summer cocktail. This drink was in a martini glass and had guava. It was really delicious.

The rest of the family got a large thin crust. They went with half cheese and half BBQ Chicken. My husband loved his BBQ Chicken and couldn't stop raving about it. We ended up with so much extra pizza, that we left with three pizza boxes. You best believe we drove that pizza home to Seattle and ate it the next day!

I told them it was my birthday and they brought me a piece of cheesecake with a candle. It was sweet of them and it tasted so smooth and creamy. This was such a fun birthday, especially being in Portland and having awesome food and drinks! Definitely check this spot out for pizza in Portland.
