Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Dinner at the Firehouse Restaurant and Lounge in Florence, OR

The Firehouse Restaurant and Lounge is located in Old Town, on Bay St. in Florence. They've been a family-owned restaurant for twenty years!

My family and I returned home last week from the OR Coast, and we stayed in Florence. We ate at lots of local restaurants. Some were as good as we remembered. A couple of the places we went I wouldn't recommend on here, and there were a few spots we tried that stood out. One of those spots is The Firehouse Restaurant and Lounge.

This spot is divey, but in the best way. Not fancy, just good classic comfort food. And lots of firetrucks to look at. They serve American cuisine. Burgers, seafood, chowder, pasta, and more. They also have a full bar, so my husband and I ordered a Long Beach. This cocktail is like a Long Island, but it also has cranberry juice. Their version of a Long Beach hit the spot and was very good (and strong).

To eat, I chose the Chicken Alfredo Pasta. The serving was huge, and it had Penne Pasta. It was under seasoned, but thankfully there was salt and pepper on the table. My husband had the Fish Sandwich. The fish was crispy and fresh, and he quickly devoured it. They also have a kid's menu. One of my boys chose some Alfredo Pasta and my other son ordered the Mac and Cheese. Both pastas were delicious and buttery.

Check out this spot in Old Town Florence if you're in the area! The service was friendly, and it always feels great supporting local!
