Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Dinner at Suki Yaki Inn in Spokane, WA

A variety of sushi rolls from Suki Yaki Inn in downtown Spokane.

My family and I recently returned from a road trip to Montana. We like to stay overnight in Spokane on the way there and back, to break up and the trip and make it more leisurely. This year, a friend recommended we eat dinner at Suki Yaki Inn in downtown Spokane. It's a Japanese spot, featuring sushi and cocktails, and it looked too good to pass up.

After checking into our hotel and getting sorted, we drove a few minutes to the restaurant, a little after they opened. I heard Suki Yaki gets busy and we didn't want to wait, so we arrived around 5:30. It wasn't busy yet and we were seated right away. They have a variety of seating options, regular tables, and small private tables where you sit on the floor. There is a foot hold under the table where you can put your legs and feet. But it does appear you are dining on the floor. I was happy for the foot hold, that aspect made if way comfier.

They have a big menu for lots of yummy Japanese food. My husband and I chose four sushi rolls to share. The server brought them out on one big plate. Yum! We dug right and in and enjoyed the freshness and flavor so much. Our sons shared the Chicken Teriyaki with rice. There's also a large cocktail menu. My husband had a Manhattan and I chose a Passionfruit Martini. The drinks are inexpensive and so tasty. Since it wasn't busy yet, our server was attentive and helpful.

The interior is a bit dated, but the food tastes so authentic and fresh, that is really doesn't matter. The table we sat at made the whole experience more fun and unique, which I loved.

I highly recommend stopping in for sushi and some drinks if you're in downtown Spokane!
