Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Brunch at Honey Salt in Vancouver, BC

Brunch is always a good idea, especially if Monkey Bread is involved!

During out visit to Vancouver, we had brunch at Honey Salt which is located inside the JW Marriot Parq Vancouver. This restaurant combines classic comfort food with relaxed sophistication. They serve farm to table cuisine with locally and regionally sourced ingredients. The original Honey Salt location is in Las Vegas. I didn't know this until after our meal, which is funny because I was getting Vegas vibes when we sat down. Lots of tables, kind of bougie, and tons of delicious items to order.

Since it was brunch, we just had to order a brunch cocktail. I chose a White Peach Mimosa and my husband got The Remedy. It had Stolichnaya vodka, strawberry fresh citrus blend and soda. We all started with an order of the Monkey Bread. This sweet comfort food had a brioche type of bread and was covered in a honey bourbon sauce. It was garnished with orange peel and gave it a citrusy flavor that paired so well with the caramel covered bread. Monkey Bread is perfect for sharing, and so fun to eat.

I ordered the Chocolate Hazelnut Stuffed French Toast. It had Nutella and a banana caramel sauce. It also had lots of fresh fruit on top. This was a very decadent dish and also perfect for sharing. I also got an order of Turkey Sausage. My husband enjoyed some Smoked Salmon Benedict, which looked really lovely, too. And my sons shared some Mac and Cheese with Chicken from the kid's menu.

After eating brunch, it was time to head back to Seattle. We had so much fun hanging out in Vancouver for our overnight!
