A Visit to Sweet Mickey's in Ballard
After enjoying some yummy fresh sushi at Moshi Moshi, we went two stores down to Sweet Mickey's. This old-Fashioned candy shoppe has been open in historic Ballard for ten years now. This was my first visit in. I'd heard about this lovely store and I was always interested in checking it out. This girl has a sweet tooth, so I'd knew I would love it.
They make all of their fudge in-house and the fudge I ended up purchasing was made fresh that day. I selected some Chocolate Peanut Butter Fudge and some Divinity. Since it was Christmas Eve, some homemade locally made fudge sounded just right. I chose these two flavors as a nod to my dad and my grandma.
They have each passed away, so when I saw these flavors, I had to buy them. My dad always made Chocolate Peanut Butter fudge at Christmas, and when I no longer lived at home, he'd ship me some. And my grandma always made Divinity, both white with walnuts and Pink Divinity. Divinity is a candy confection made from egg whites, corn syrup, and sugar. It's similar to a nougat candy and when I see Divinity, I think of her.
Sweet Mickey's also has a wide array of gummy candy. You can sample as many pieces as you'd like, we were later told by Randy, the friendly guy at the register. There were some fun Christmas gummies like Gingerbread Men Gummies, I would have liked to try. They also have some Harry Potter candy which is always fun to see.
Definitely check out this whimsical and sweet candy shoppe in historic Ballard!
