Exploring Reedsport, Oregon | Umpqua River Lighthouse and Jackson's Coffeehouse Cafe
Umpqua River Lighthouse was Oregon's first lighthouse. This is one of the few you can climb to the top of.
During our stay in Florence, OR we checked out Reedsport, about twenty miles south. First, we stopped for an afternoon coffee and treat at Jackson's Coffeehouse Cafe. Our son chose a Cinnamon Roll, which they warmed up and added frosting to. Our other son selected a chocolate chip cookie. My husband and I shared an overly sweet, mocha, white chocolate, and caramel iced drink. We didn't finish it. I had a nice caffeine buzz, however. Their interior was kind of fun, with lots of seating and a big, sweeping staircase to another level with more seating. Jackson's had a warm and homey vibe.
Then we drove a few more miles to see the Umpqua River Lighthouse. I'd never visited this one before, and I was really excited. I love lighthouses and photographing them. This was the first lighthouse on the OR Coast. They offer tours which are forty minutes, and you can go to the top of the lighthouse. There's also a museum and gift shop nearby. Across the street from the lighthouse, are tons of sand dunes and the beach.
After taking some photos of the lighthouse, I was ready to get in the car and head back to Florence. But my husband mentioned the gift shop and museum down the street, and I was thrilled. I also love gift shops. I was feeling the coffee by this point, too. We went inside the gift shop, and it was one of the biggest we've visited. My son bought a small ship, and I picked out a Christmas decoration of a cute marshmallow snowman. They also had a large selection of chocolates and cookies. We purchased a sugar cookie with frosting. It was giant, and we all shared.
We needed to use the restroom, and that's located inside the museum. I snapped a few photos on the way to the restroom. This museum was packed with awesome lighthouse and OR history. We love to see it. Another mile or so, on the way back to Florence, we drove by Lake Marie. I couldn't resist taking a few photos of this tranquil lake. Then we headed back to our hotel in Florence, and I got to check off another lighthouse off my list of ones to see.
The museum's interior. We just saw the front of the museum, near the restrooms. I think you need to buy a ticket for the museum, but we weren't sure.
