Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Dinner at La Pomodori in Florence, OR

Delicious Gnocchi with Sausage from La Pomodori in Florence, OR.

If you're visiting Florence, OR and want Italian food, you must dine at La Pomodori. I was really impressed with this spot. From the cuisine, the cocktails, the service, and the vibe- it was all on point. This is one of the best places to eat in Florence. You need a reservation, and they recommend calling a few days in advance. We took our boys, but this spot isn't very kid friendly. There's no kids' menu, and they charge $5 to split a dish and prepare on two plates.

Each entree comes with either soup or a salad. Something got lost in translation and we were charged an additional $6 for a cup of soup when we ordered a plate of pasta for our sons to share. They aren't soup fans, so we took the extra soup to go. They shared the Caicio E Pepe with chicken. This pasta dish is creamy and full of pepper. We'd never tried it, and it was a little too spicy for my boys because of the pepper.

I loved my dish, though. I ordered the Gnocchi with Sausage. It was full of flavor and so rich and creamy. The sausage was savory and a little spicy. It was just as tasty re-heated in my hotel room the next day. We also ordered the Ciabatta Bread. For $3, its unlimited. I also chose a Ceasar Salad with my entree. My husband had the Chicken Marsala. This pasta dish has mushrooms, Marsala wine, and cream. To drink, we each had a signature cocktail from their menu.

They're located off the main street and tourist area. The restaurant is in a house, which looks welcoming and unique. Give this place a go if you're in the area!
