Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

A Birthday Dinner at Electric Cello in Georgetown

The Great Houdini cocktail from Electric Cello.

For my birthday dinner, I went out with my husband and our sons to Electric Cello. They're located in Georgetown and serve ''fancy comfort food" and spirits from OOLA Distillery, which is next door. Soon after I made our reservation, they announced they'd be closing on October 22nd. They are planning on moving to another location in the future.

They offer happy hour and they have a lot of shareable plates. The food is elevated American cuisine. I started off with The Great Houdini drink. This colorful cocktail had OOLA Citrus Vodka, Lavender Butterfly Syrup, lemon, soda, and was topped with some rosemary. The Lavender Butterfly Syrup, I think, was poured tableside. My son ordered the same drink, just without the vodka, of course. My husband had a Manhattan.

We all ended up sharing some small plates. We started off with three orders of the house-made bread, which came with a salty butter for spreading. We also tried the House Chips with Dip. It came with a Truffled Egg Salad and Chive for dipping. We ordered some Burrata which had beets and pistachios. The cheese was nice and creamy, Then we tried the Cheese Pierogi. They're Polish fried dumplings with creme fraiche, chives, and smoked salmon roe. They were decent, but a little under seasoned.

For dessert, we all shared the Strawberries and Cream. Our dessert had strawberry mousse, rose strawberry shaved ice, and angel food cake. A light dessert, with some unique textures, and very refreshing.

The atmosphere at Electric Cello was trendy and artsy. I liked the instruments on the wall and all of the candles around the space. I wonder where they'll land in the future and what hot new spot will occupy this spot next.
