Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

My favorite spots for Hand Scooped Ice Cream in Western WA

It's still summer in Seattle, so that means it's still ice cream season! But who are we kidding? It's always ice cream season. If you read my blog, you know I love Soft Serve. I have lots of posts about soft serve spots. Just use the search feature on the top right and type in soft serve. But hand scooped ice cream also has its place and can be just as delicious. We're ice cream lovers over here, so we don't discriminate. But where in Seattle, and around Western Washington, are the really good spots? Read below for my favorite places.

Molly Moon's has multiple locations around Seattle. Nine to be exact. Pictured is their Strawberry Cheesecake, but my all-time fav is the Salted Caramel. You can check out my blogpost about Molly Moon's right here

Salt & Straw started in Oregon and has now expanded to Seattle, CA, and Florida. Lucky for me, there's two locations in Seattle-Cap Hill and Ballard. See my post from the Cap Hill spot here and the Ballard location here. Pictured is a split scoop of Double Fold Vanilla and the Chocolate Gooey Brownie in a homemade waffle cone.

Frankie and Jo's are a plant-based ice cream shop with two locations in Seattle. On my visit I tried the Salty Caramel Ash and the Gingered Golden Milk. It tasted so incredible, and I couldn't tell the ice cream was non-dairy. The waffle cones are also great. They're gluten-free and use pure maple syrup, oat flour, and brown sugar. Read more from my post here

Located in Tacoma on the Point Ruston Waterfront is Ice Cream Social. Their Salted Caramel was full of flavor. See my post here

Looking for awesome ice cream on Vashon Island? Look no further than Glass Bottle Creamery. I recommend the Rhubarb Ginger Ice Cream in the summertime. They also have an arcade in their shop. So fun! See more here on my blog.

Located right next to Seattle's Pike Place Market is Shug's Soda Fountain and Ice Cream. Their shop is so bright with a celebratory feel. They also have a lot of sundaes and floats to choose from. Pictured is their Dixie Split which had a buttery caramel sauce. See more from our visit here.

Over on Bainbridge Island is Emma and Otto's, the perfect spot to stop for a cone before or after getting on the ferry. I had a scoop of Blackberry ice cream and my sons had chocolate cones. See more here

In the small town of Snoqualmie, you'll find Snoqualmie Ice Cream. Grab a cone while walking around their cute downtown. Pictured is the Coffee and Cookies in a cup. See more from my visit here

Located inside the Stone House Cafe in Seattle is Laina's Handmade Ice Cream. Shown is their Strawberry flavor. See more about their ice cream here
