Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Father's Day Brunch at Jak's Grill

Eat up! Enjoying brunch on Father's Day at Jak's Grill in West Seattle.

For Father's Day our family had brunch at Jak's Grill in West Seattle. Jak's Grill has three locations in the greater Seattle area and was established in 1996. They're a steakhouse, serving classic American dishes. We'd never dined at Jak's before but had heard many good things over the years.

The first thing I noticed was how dim the restaurant was. The vibe was very welcoming and romantic. The building, located along California Ave, felt old school and rustic. Kind of perfect for a steakhouse, I thought. There were two levels for dining, and a steep staircase leads you to the second level, giving the diner an overhead view of the restaurant.

I started off with an Espresso Martini and my husband had a Sidecar. We also ended up sharing a Strawberry Rhubarb Smash at the end of the meal. I had a Belgian Waffle with Whipped Cream and strawberries, bacon, and scrambled eggs. Our boys chose the Waffle Sticks from the kid's menu. They came with whipped cream, strawberries, your choice of eggs, and either bacon or sausage. Such a fun brunch item for kids! My husband loves Eggs Benidict, so he ordered the California Eggs Benidict. It came with tomato, spinach, poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce. Some Jak's potatoes also came on the side.

The bacon was so crispy and crunchy. The waffle was just perfect with syrup, whipped cream, and the strawberries. I mean, how can you go wrong with all of that? Everyone else loved their food and we all scraped our plates clean. We usually have leftovers when we go out, but not this time.

Between the nice lighting, outstanding service, and tasty food, Jak's Grill was such a good choice for brunch!
