Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Celebrating our wedding anniversary at STK Steak

The Steak Frites from STK Steak.

This week my husband and I celebrated our 15th wedding anniversary! We celebrated by going out to lunch at STK Steak in Bellevue. They call themselves a modern steakhouse and chic lounge. I'd heard about the interior and was excited to check it out. The vibe reminded me of Vegas, and I'm here for it. The dining room was spacious and decorated so pretty. In the back, there's a bar with horns on the wall and lots of seating.

Our server was friendly, and the service was prompt. We kicked things off with a cocktail. I had a Strawberry Cobbler and my husband had a Not Your Daddy's Old Fashioned. All of the cocktails were made with top shelf liquor and the prices reflected that. My drink had Belvedere Vodka, muddled strawberry, and a graham cracker rim. Right away, I could taste the vodka, but then a second sip gave me more of the strawberry and sweetness from the graham cracker rim. My drink tasted like a strawberry dessert, resulting in a nice choice of drink.

To eat, I ordered the Steak Frites. I chose my steak to be cooked medium rare. Steak Frites is just steak served with fries. In this case, it was an 8 oz. Rib Eye. My steak tasted a little under seasoned but tasted much better with the STK sauce poured on top. The sauce was a butter sauce with seasonings. My husband ordered the STK Sandwich, a steak sandwich with shaved coffee-rubbed Rib Eye. There was also caramelized onions, gruyere cheese, and horseradish cream. I tried a bite of his sandwich and it was 10 out of 10.

Our server knew it was our anniversary and he surprised us with a complimentary piece of Raspberry Cheesecake. It was so creamy and rich! What a sweet surprise and a perfect ending to our special lunch.
