Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

A Visit to Cup O' Soul in Columbia Falls, MT

A homemade waffle cone with handcrafted Salted Caramel ice cream from Cup O' Soul in Columbia Falls.

When I travel one of the things I love doing is trying the local ice cream! During out visit to Columbia Falls, MT my family and I tried the new ice cream shop, Cup O' Soul. They used to have a Mobile Ice Cream Trailer, but the owners had dreams of an actual shop. They wanted to serve handcrafted ice cream, espresso, and desserts. And they wanted everything to be homemade. Their dream came alive and I was excited to check out their store. The space, located right on Nucleus Ave, is new and bright. They wanted it to feel welcoming like you're walking into your Grandma's house, and I'd say they succeeded.

The ingredients from their ice cream come from local MT farmers. The flavors looked and sounded delicious. Some of the flavors I noticed were Wild Huckleberry, Flathead Cherry, Milk and Cookies, and Farmhouse Chocolate. I chose a scoop of the Salted Caramel in a homemade waffle cone. They also make their own toppings for the ice cream, and I was very happy to see them adding some salted caramel sauce to my cone.

This was one of those ice cream cones I could have easily eaten on my own. You could taste the quality of the ice cream, the topping, and that gorgeous cone. The ice cream texture was incredible creamy and smooth. The flavor of the salted caramel was just right, and the waffle cone was perfectly sweet and crunchy.

I did have to share with my husband and son, but I do love to share tasty things with the people I love. My other son is like me and loves his sweets. So he got a scoop of the Farmhouse Chocolate in a waffle cone. I didn't try it, but judging by the way it looked, I say it was a winner of a choice.
