Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

A Stay at Tru By Hilton in Spokane Valley, WA

My family and I recently made the trip to my hometown in Columbia Falls, MT. Although we had a funeral for my dad in January, we also had a Celebration of Life in May. Because of Covid, we were only able to hold a small service this winter. Since the drive is nine hours there, we always take two days and stay overnight in Spokane. I always choose a different hotel to make it more fun. On the way to MT we stayed at Tru By Hilton

The property looked new upon arriving. There's free parking, complimentary breakfast, and an indoor pool. The lobby is huge with ample seating and even a pool table. Our room was bright and clean. It felt brand new and really modern. The bathroom was a nice size with a shower and glass doors, which I'm now seeing in a lot of places. After getting checked in and settled, we headed for an early dinner close by at Boston Pizza.

Their interior was kind of dim, but they have a full bar and my favorite kind of food, pizza! I started with a Froze and my husband had a Manhattan. The drinks were cheap and my Froze hit the spot. I had some Pepperoni Stuffed Twist Bread, which were packed with calories, but tasted delicious. The portion was huge so I brought half back to our room and stored them in our mini fridge for my sons to eat later.

That night we used the pool and hot tub, which we had to ourselves. I love to soak in hotel hot tubs after being in the car all day. After a pretty rest full night of sleep on the comfy beds, it was time to check out the complimentary breakfast in the lobby. They had a pancake maker! I'd never seen such a thing and it blew my mind. The hotel worker just added the pancake batter and then waved her hand over the machine. Then the batter drops into a pancake and comes out the other end of the machine. You just put your plate next to the machine and it makes two at a time. There was also a lot of toppings! The breakfast was tasty and filling. There also had Frittatas, sausage, cereal, bagels, and muffins.

Before we knew it, it was time to pack up and check out. It was time to finish the second leg of the trip and head to the Flathead Valley in MT. If you're looking for a room in Spokane Valley, you can't go wrong with Tru By Hilton!
