Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Lunch at Birrieria Grumpy's

An order of the Quesa-Birria Tacos from Birrieria Grumpy's in Tukwila.

One of my favorite foods are Birria Tacos. Birria is a traditional Mexican stew/soup, that's made with a variety of spices and meats. They're the best tacos I've ever eaten, and you'll never forget the first time you try one. Seattle now has a nice variety of places to get Birria Tacos and thank goodness for that.

My husband and I recently checked out Birrieria Grumpy's for lunch. It's a casual spot in Tukwila, so just order your food at the counter and grab a table. I had an order of two Quesa-Birria Tacos and my husband tried something unique and new to us, the Birria Ramen. This dish has Ramen noodles in a consome broth, with birria, cilantro, onions, pickled onion, and lime. He really liked how tender the beef birria was. He loves Ramen and Pho, so this dish was right up his alley.

I, of course, loved my tacos. Yes, Birria Tacos are messy, but it's so worth it. The melted cheese was perfect and the birria flavor was on point. And dipped in the consome sauce is the way to go. For dessert we shared a piece of the chocolate cake with Flan on top. It was just ok, as we've eaten better Flan before. Just come for the tacos and Birria Ramen, and you won't be disappointed.
