Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Four Las Vegas spots for your sweet tooth

A classic chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting from Carlo's Bakeshop.

If you have a sweet tooth like me, then Vegas is the place to find all kinds of desserts. During our stay we visited two candy stores, a bakeshop, and we grabbed a shake at the LINQ Promenade. And we had lots of other treats during out meals out. Here are four spots on the Las Vegas strip for some sweet stuff!

M&M's World

I visited M&M's World back in 2006, so on my recent trip I wanted to bring my sons. This is a kid-friendly attraction on the strip. The store is four levels and is 28,000 square feet. There's a ton of merchandise to purchase for souvenirs. You can also buy M&M's galore and even have some customized. They have a lot of unique flavors of M&M's to choose from. I bought some Las Vegas ones that were black, red, orange, and silver peanut M&M's. On the top floor is a neat M&M car that is a cool spot for photos.

Carlo's Bakeshop

Located inside the Grand Canal Shoppes at The Venetian is Carlo's Bakeshop. They have a wide selection of desserts and you'll have a hard time choosing. From colorful cake slices, to big cookies, whole cakes, and Lobster Tails, you'll be salivating. Since I was still full from dinner, I chose a chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting. It was 8 pm, so the cupcake could have been fresher, but I was happy to get to try Carlo's Bakeshop, after hearing about it for years.

I Love Sugar

What kid and adult doesn't love a two- story candy store? On the LINQ Promenade you'll find I Love Sugar. On the second floor is a Candy Martini Bar with huge cocktails, with lots of candy for garnish. My son and I wanted to buy a little candy to take back home. I bought a milk chocolate candy bar with a pretty picture of Vegas on it. They had a massive selection of bulk candy. The first floor was gummy candy and the second floor was the chocolate section. There was a lot to look at in the store. A really cool place for candy in Las Vegas!

Gordan Ramsay Fish and Chips

Also located on the LINQ Promenade is Gordan Ramsay Fish and Chips. I've heard great things about the fish and chips, but we wanted to try one of the shakes. They have two to choose from. A Biscoff one and a Sticky Toffee Pudding shake. We chose the Biscoff shake. It looked delicious and was topped with whipped cream and a Biscoff cookie. It was really thick and rich, and had a really subtle Biscoff flavor. We weren't able to finish the shake, but it was fun to try a Gordan Ramsay item!
