Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

A Visit to Indigo Cow for Soft Serve

Japanese soft serve from Indigo Cow in Wallingford!

About six months ago Indigo Cow opened in Wallingford. They have a walk-up window and sell Hokkaido Soft Serve. They're the first place in the states to serve it. Hokkaido is milk that comes from Hokkaido, Japan, which is in the northern most territory of Japan.

When they first opened, they drew lines and often sold old quickly. When a new hot place opens, I usually wait for the hype to die down a bit. When I saw they were selling a Valentine's Day Special, I went the next day. The cone looked too cute to pass up. They make their own waffle cones, usually in indigo blue. This weekend, until February 14th, they have pink ones. There's also the soft serve with a strawberry sauce, chocolate chips, chocolate sauce on the edge of the cone, and heart shaped sprinkles.

There was no line when I went, so I got my ice cream cone fast! It was a 10 out of 10 for me. The ice cream was so creamy. The waffle cone was really nicely made, and the strawberry sauce was the perfect topping. And of course, I loved the cute heart decor on top and on the edge of the cone.
