Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

A Birthday dinner for my sons at the Waterfront Depot in Florence, OR

During our stay in Florence, OR our sons had a birthday. I wanted to go out for a special dinner to celebrate. I chose one of the best restaurants in town, the Waterfront Depot. I made a reservation about a week and a half in advance and got a 4:30 slot. They are very popular with locals and travelers alike. They serve elevated coastal cuisine and I couldn't wait to try the food!

The menu looked really tasty and they also serve signature cocktails. They had a board of cocktail specials and I tried two of them. The first drink I had was an Oregon Peach Julep. This refreshing cocktail had mint, brown sugar bourbon, and Peach Vodka. The other was a Tart Cherry Cremosa. It had Vanilla Vodka, triple sec, tart cherry juice, soda, and cream. It reminded me of a Cherry Italian Soda, but a grown- up version. My husband loves Manhattans so he had their version of this classic cocktail.

We started with the Manchego Cheese Plate. This colorful and delicious looking plate contained a savory and buttery Iberian Manchego Cheese and Focaccia Bread. My boys loved the cheese and bread. We liked how creamy the cheese was. They do have a kids menu, but you have to ask for it. My boys shared an order of the Chicken Strips and Fries.

My husband ordered the Maple Leaf Duck Breast. It was served with rice and asparagus. The duck was cooked medium rare with a 5 spice rub. The duck was really good. I thought it was tender and full of flavor. I had the Lamb Riblets. It came with three grilled New Zealand Lamb Riblets and it was served with a house mint sauce. I really enjoyed the mint sauce and it made my mouth go zing! The riblets were so tender and delicious!

Since it was my sons birthday we ordered a slice of the Tres Leches cake. It was really light and spongy. The service at the Waterfront Depot was so accommodating and welcoming. This was such a good meal and I'd highly recommend it if you're in the area.

My twin sons turned eight! I packed some decorations and put them up in our hotel room. They wanted a Lego themed BD this year. I was easily able to find some Lego decorations. We had balloons, a sign for the wall, plates, and a cake topper. I bought a small square shaped cake at the local grocery store and decorated it. I had also bought some brick candy online and decorated the cake with those. It was such a fun time!
