Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Exploring Poulsbo, WA

My family and I recently took an overnight trip to the Poulsbo and Silverdale area on the Kitsap Peninsula. Our first stop was Poulsbo for some lunch and exploring. Poulsbo is located about an hour and twenty minutes from Seattle. You can take a ferry, but we decided to drive down to Tacoma and then drive around. It didn't take long at all and the drive was nice and scenic. Poulsbo is the cutest little Washington town and is known as "Little Norway".

I'd visited a couple of times in the past, but my last visit was around 2008, so it was time to go again! The historic downtown scene in Poulsbo is definitely worth checking out. Named Front St, there are lots of fun businesses to see such as bakeries, cafes, galleries, and coffeeshops. I love the architecture and it gives off European vibes for sure.

A visit to Poulsbo isn't complete until you've gone to Sluys Bakery. And everyone else feels the same because the line when we first walked by was really long. I guess people just really like their fresh baked goods. Sluys roots go back to the early 1900's. They sell a huge assortment of donuts, cinnamon rolls, cookies, and more. Everything is made from scratch and hand crafted. I couldn't wait to try a Viking Cup with Cream Cheese.

Luckily, they don't seem to run out of product and they must make a lot. In the early afternoon they still had so many baked goods left, despite how busy they were. The Viking Cup was a cinnamon roll filled with cream cheese frosting. It was super satisfying and yummy and all of the good things you'd say about a pasty like this.

We also checked out Boehm's Chocolates right down the street. I wanted to purchase some chocolates for later. I bought two Salted Caramel Milk chocolates and two Dark Chocolate Marzipan chocolates. I also bought a graham cracker covered in milk chocolate with sea salt. It also had a delicious caramel under the chocolate. It really hit the spot the next day!

We also walked around and checked out the Poulsbo Marina. It was a gorgeous summer day and the views of the boats and water were a nice site. We ate lunch at the Loft, which I'll be sharing about in my next post!
