Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Checking out the Columbia Falls Community Market

Some Chicken Nachos from Glacier Gourmet hit the spot after a day of traveling.

My sons and I recently returned from a week in Columbia Falls, MT to visit our family. We flew there and we had a really early flight. The airline misplaced our suitcase, so we arrived at my parent's house super tired and stressed about our bag. It was a rocky start, but after a nap I felt okay. Then I felt even better when a few hours later, someone from the airline delivered by bag to the house. Even though my sleep patterns were a little off all week from that early flight, at least we had our stuff.

So after resting and hanging out with the family a little, my sons and I went with my brother and his family to the Columbia Falls Community Market to grab some dinner. This event happens from May 20th through September 30th and is held every Thursday from 5pm until twilight. I hadn't been to the community market since they moved it to a different part of town. Now its much bigger and the space was popping. They have a big stage with live music and tons of covered tables for seating. I was also surprised by how many food trucks there were. There was something for everyone. Korean, Thai, Mexican, American, and more. It was hard to decide to what to get! There was also a lot of booths selling products from local farms, art, and jewelry.

We walked around in a loop to check out the scene and decide what we wanted for dinner. My sister got a giant Acai Bowl which looked really refreshing. My brother decided on some yummy looking Tachos, nachos made with tater tots. They were topped with pulled pork, bbq sauce, and a cheese sauce. My son got a corn dog and my other son and I got nachos from Glacier Gourmet. He got cheese nachos and I chose Chicken Nachos. The servings were huge and we couldn't finish everything. The cheese sauce could have been better, so I was a little bummed. But we were starving so I didn't mind too much.

This event was a really nice vibe and felt very "Montana" to me. I hadn't been to any event since pre-Covid so it felt great to be there walking around. I'm definitely going to visit again next summer!
