Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

4th of July Cookies

Star Cookies with red, white, and blue candies to celebrate the 4th of July!

Happy Birthday, America! I decided to bake some cookies with red, white, and blue M&M candies. I think I made my cookies too big because they ran together while baking. So I used a star cookie cutter and made the cookies even more patriotic. The second pan was better, so I left those alone. The batch was pretty small, only making about 14 cookies. But that's easy to double if you're planning on sharing  with friends.

I used the recipe from bunsinmyoven.com and you can find it here. I didn't make any adjustments expect for the star shapes, so just click the link to see their recipe. The cookies spread really thin while baking, but I prefer my homemade cookies kind of thin and crispy on the outside. They were a little under baked, too, which I love. This cookie recipe would work for any holiday, just switch out the candy. I was happy to see these red, white, and blue candies at the store.

Have a fun and safe 4th of July!
