Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Dinner at Nine Pies Pizzeria at SODO Urbanworks

The perfect slice of pepperoni pizza awaits you at Nine Pies Pizzeria.

Finding pizza you love at a restaurant close to your house is a blessing. I didn't expect to like the pizza as much as I did at Nine Pies Pizzeria. Their pizza is New York style so the crust is thin and full of cheese and grease. The pepperonis are those cups I love and they make me happy. We had a reservation so we were seated right away at a nice corner table for four. I liked the bright, industrial feel and the Vespa bike theme. Right next door is Nine Hats Winery so they serve wine and beer from there. The menu has a nice variety of starters, salads, pastas, calzones, and pizza. And don't forget to save room for gelato for dessert.

I started with a glass of Prosecco and my husband had a glass of Cabernet Sauvignon. My son had an Orange San Pellegrino to drink for the first time and enjoyed the refreshing bubbles. To start we all shared some breadsticks and Stuffed Mushrooms. The breadsticks were really good because of the melted cheese on top. They came with a marinara and a bean dip for dipping. The mushrooms were stuffed with Ricotta cheese and they were a light and savory way to start the meal.

We ordered two 14 inch pizzas. One was cheese and the other was half pep and half mushroom and pineapple. I really enjoyed my pepperoni pizza and put away two slices. This is my favorite style of pizza and I'm glad I went and checked this spot out. For dessert, we ordered the Nutella Calzone to share along with some Mango gelato. If you are a Nutella fan, you'd love this dessert. This treat hit the spot for us. It was rich and chocolaty and the base was the same bread as their pizza dough. They used a ton of Nutella though, so this was one messy dessert. The gelato was really creamy and fruity. Yum!

Nine Pies Pizzeria is located at the SODO Urbanworks. They feature ten of Washington's food and wine crafters into one communal space.
