Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

An Afternoon in Edmonds, WA

Edmonds, WA is twenty three miles North of Seattle and is way worth a visit.

My family and I visited Edmonds, another great Washington town that is definitely worth checking out. I'd visited once, years ago, and just for a second to see the marina and the boats. They have an adorable downtown area filled with shops, restaurants, galleries, and coffeeshops. It's very walkable too, since part of the streets are currently pedestrian only for summertime.

The first thing we did was grab some coffee at Red Twig. This cafe/bakery is located on Main Street and has been open since 2004. I had an Iced Chai Latte with Oat Milk and a big cookie. The cookies had peanut butter, chocolate chips, pretzels, and Heath Bits. They were really thick and hearty cookies. They have a nice and spacious outdoor dining area with ample seating, and lots of tables inside.

Then we walked around and checked out the scene. I noticed there were bright and colorful murals everywhere. They also had a nice setup at most of the restaurants with outdoor seating areas on the sidewalks. We walked about fifteen minutes from downtown to the beach. This beach is by the Edmonds Ferry Terminal, so it was a neat view of Puget Sound and the ferries. These ferries go to Kingston, WA on the Kitsap Peninsula.

Then we walked back to the downtown area and went into a really neat lavender store called Pelindaba Lavender. Opened since 2017, their shop is filled with local, organic, and handcrafted lavender products. Their lavender products are all from their farm in the San Juan Islands. I purchased some lotion and a Milk Chocolate Lavender Bar. We also happened to walk by Rick Steves Europe Travel Center. This is where you can purchase guidebooks, luggage, and travel merch. It was fun to see this building since I'm a fan of his tv show and his travel books.

Then my sons played at one of the many playgrounds in Edmonds before we drove back to Seattle. I really enjoyed this small and personable town on the water. I also liked how many local businesses there were to support in the artsy and fun town.
