Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Opening Day at Flora Bakehouse

A brand new bakery just opened in my neighborhood in Beacon Hill. Today was the opening day of Flora Bakehouse. They also own the lovely Cafe Flora in Madison Valley, which I've dined at several times before. So I was excited to check out their bakery. My son and I went early, two hours after they opened, and we waited in line for an hour. The temps were low for Seattle, about 35 degrees. But we bundled up and waited patiently for our turn inside. We knew we'd be filling our bellies soon with some unbelievable croissants, so we weren't too worried about waiting in line.

The interior was bright and cute, but best of all it smelled like fresh pastries. They had a really nice selection and everything looked mouthwatering to us. We ended up selecting some individual Monkey Bread's, some Kouign Amann, a Chocolate Croissant, and a Bakehouse Blondie.

Then we headed back to our house and sampled our goods. The pastries, except the croissant, were on the hard side. But nothing that ten seconds in the microwave couldn't fix. All four items were beyond good. When I cut open the Kouign Amann, there was a beautiful cross section of pastry layers that begged to be photographed. The Monkey Bread was fun to eat. The neat thing about Monkey Bread is slowly peeling off each piece. If you're a caramel fan and you love bread, then this pastry is for you. The Bakehouse Blondie was also tasty, as it had butterscotch, chocolate chips, and potato chip pieces. This was a unique and whimsical cookie that my son loved. The Chocolate Croissant was also one of the best we've eaten in Seattle.

So how happy am I that Flora Bakehouse opened by my house? Very happy. And I'll be paying them regular visits, too!
