Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Dinner and a spin on the Seattle Great Wheel | Celebrating the first day of summer

A passenger on the Seattle Great Wheel peers down at Puget Sound below.

To celebrate the start of summer in Seattle, our family headed over to Pier 57 on the waterfront. We dined at The Fisherman's Restaurant on their outdoor patio. The Seattle Great Wheel loomed over us as we dined, offering fun views for us all. I started with a summery cocktail, a Sangria. And my hubby had one of his faves, a Manhattan. Our boys each ordered the Chicken Tenders from the kids menu. I enjoyed the Smoked Salmon which was chilled Salmon. It was served with Crostini and a creamy salmon dip, along with cocktail sauce and spicy Cauliflower. It tasted really fresh and I enjoyed every bite. My husband had the Halibut and Chips, which he also loved.

We weren't planning on taking a spin on the Seattle Great Wheel, but how could we resist? My husband doesn't enjoy heights, but my sons and I really do. So just the three of us purchased tickets and just waited a few minutes to step inside our cabin. The day we went was actually the first day they opened since they closed for Covid-19. There weren't too many people around, so we had a cabin to ourselves. Usually on a Saturday, they'll pack you in with other passengers. My husband and I first visited the wheel when it originally opened back in 2012. You can see that post here.

My boys and I had a blast on the ride. It went around about four times and we found it really enjoyable. The views are gorgeous of course, and its always fun getting another perspective of the place we live. My husband waved at us from below. My boys love Ferris Wheels, and they were so excited to finally ride this one. The photographer in me loved every second, since there were so many photo ops up there. What a fun way to celebrate the start of summer in the Pacific Northwest!
