Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

A Holiday Event at Pyramid Alehouse | A Keg Tree Lighting

On November 30th I attended Pyramid Alehouse's holiday event. I was invited to come try some beers and watch them light up a two-story keg Christmas tree. The proceeds from the beer sales went toward Food Lifeline of Western WA. Click here to read my previous post about the event.

I brought my sister-in law as my plus one and we had a blast trying drinks, getting our grub on in the VIP section, and watching the keg tree light up. The event was all outside, so we tried not to freeze. We each grabbed a beer to kick things off, and they instantly warmed us up. I tried the Gingerbread Stout and she had the Snow Cap Winter Ale. My beer tasted like Christmas in a cup. It had a sugared rim with flavors of nutmeg and cinnamon. We really liked the ice sculpture and it made an awesome photo op. The food was set up buffet style with Greek and Asian eats. Everything tasted delish and went well with our drinks. For our next round we each sipped a Cabernet Sauvigon.

We walked around and checked out the Reindeer and then we got our photo taken in the photo booth.  Then Pyramid Alehouse presented the check of one hundred thousand dollars to the director of Food Lifeline. There were some technical difficulties with getting the keg tree lit. But finally, it happened, and we were all able to get a bunch of photos. Then I grabbed a Rose and my sister- in law had a Chardonnay before we called it a night. Pyramid did a good job of creating a Winter Wonderland with the Reindeer, holiday music, seasonal beers, and the keg tree. It was pretty cold. But with the drinks, food, and good cheer all around, we didn't mind.
