Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Dinner at Southpaw Pizza

These are a few of my favorite things-Froze, pizza, and soft serve. Lucky me, I found all three at Southpaw Pizza in Seattle's Central District. Wood fired pizza is the name of the game here. The style is both New York and Neapolitan, an incredibly tasty combo, if you ask me. The owners must like boxing, because the name Southpaw refers to a left- handed boxer stance. The signature pizzas on the menu have names like Contender, Title-Fight, Left Hook, and Uppercut. And just like a left-handed boxer, pizza that have two styles in one are unique and notable.

Order up at the counter and then grab your number.  They have beer, wine, liquor, and even boozy slushies. When we went, they had Froze, and I was able to sample some before I ordered it. I had a glass of that and my husband chose a shot of whiskey and a Rainier beer. We were at Southpaw during happy hour, so the slices were only $3 for two. You can choose from the Left Hook (the four cheese), or the Uppercut (pepperoni). This is a great deal in Seattle. The pizza slices arrived fresh and hot to our table. The slices weren't big, but we found two to be plenty of food.

My pepperoni slices also had basil which I found to be the perfect combination. The basil cut through and lightened up the meaty pizza. I loved how big the pieces of pepperoni were. There was a lot of cheese, which is great when that happens. I would never be sad about a lot of cheese. And the crust was just right, nice and thin, but the toppings held up beautifully. The crust had that nice char that Neapolitan pizza is known for. This was the perfect pizza and the best I've eaten in a while.

My Froze was tasty and refreshing. Watch out though, because brain freeze is for real. Then it was time for a little dessert. They had chocolate soft serve with a butterscotch sauce to pour over the top, so we had to get some. We also ordered two of the chocolate chip cookies with sea salt. The portion of soft serve was no joke and perfect for sharing. The butterscotch was something you might dream about. You could have given me a spoon just for that. The ice cream tasted awesome and I'm always happy as a peach to get some soft serve. It's just miles better than regular ice cream, sorry. The cookies arrived warm with the chocolate all melted. Omg, yum. People, forget your diets and treat yourself. You can always diet tomorrow.
