Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Seaside, Oregon Desserts | 2019 Edition

A scoop of Pumpkin ice cream in a sugar cone from Zinger's Homemade Ice Cream in Seaside.

Time for another post about where to treat yourself in Seaside, Oregon. Our family has visited Seaside every year for the past six years. Every time we go, we visit our favorites and we also check out new spots. Seaside is a resort town located on Oregon's northern coast. This family friendly town is full of places to tame your sweet tooth. From candy shops filled with fresh fudge and other confections, to multiple ice cream stores, there's no shortage of dessert shops in this beach town.

Schwietert's Cones and Candy

With multiple locations on the Oregon Coast, Schwietert's is a candy store we visit on every trip to Seaside. Our boys like the bulk candy while I always get some fudge. This time I bought some Orange Chocolate fudge.

Sea Star Gelato

Sea Star Gelato has been voted the best ice cream in Oregon. When you visit, you'll know why. The gelato is just so creamy and dense, and their flavors are always awesome. Try a scoop of Belgian Biscuit like I did last year. It tasted like cookie butter. They also have Tillamook Strawberry and Birthday Cake. This time I had a scoop of Peanut Butter Vibes in a chocolate dipped cone. It was just as yum as it sounds and was a decadent ice cream cone! They don't have a website, but they're located at 8 N. Columbia St. in Seaside.

Oregon Marketplace

On this trip to Seaside, we checked out Oregon Marketplace. This gift shop is chock full of Oregon goodies. This is the place to get Oregon wines, Marionberry pie and chocolates, and gifts made locally. We purchased a bag of Marionberry taffy.

Phillips Candy

Phillips Candy has been open for 120 years, making them one of Oregon's oldest businesses. We always stop in when we're in town. This time, they had chocolate covered Stroopwafles, and I just couldn't resist getting one. A Stroopwafle is a dutch wafer cookie with two thin layers and a caramel filling. Phillips did a nice job with this treat, as there was a thick chocolate coating over the cookie. It was a pretty hefty dessert, but it was sure delish.

Zinger's Homemade Ice Cream

This time in Seaside we finally got to try Zinger's Homemade Ice Cream. They have new owners now and are open during the year, not just in the summer. They've redone the space and I hear it looks nicer than with the previous owners. The space was cute and bright. For the ice cream, you can sample some first. I wanted a seasonal flavor, so I chose a scoop of the Pumpkin in a sugar cone. It was good quality ice cream. The locals and visitors love this place and now I can finally say I've tried it.
