Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Cakes of Paradise Bakery

Awesome mini Guava cupcakes from Cakes of Paradise Bakery in Georgetown.

In Seattle's Georgetown neighborhood you'll find Cakes of Paradise Bakery, a little gem selling Hawaiian desserts. Ever since we discovered this spot, we've been back several times. My photos below are from those different visits. They sell donuts, slices of cakes, pie, cheesecake, and espresso. They also do custom order cakes. They're filled with colorful layers of their popular Guava filling and other delicious Hawaiian flavors that make my mouth water just thinking about.

Today we stopped in for an afternoon treat. Right away I spotted a container of mini Guava cupcakes that looked too delicious to not bring home. "These were baked fresh this morning", the sales person told me. Since my birthday is in a couple days, I figured they'd be the perfect birthday treat. And why not dig into them and start celebrating a little early? My husband and I each ate one right away in the car. They were the perfect couple of bites. The Guava flavor and filling was perfection and they were topped off with some whipped cream. The cupcakes were light, but really satisfying. And if there's any left on my actual birthday to eat, it will be a miracle.

A drool worthy display case of donuts, cookies, and bars.

Donuts from Cakes of Paradise make the perfect afternoon snack!

This chocolate bar donut was so good and I loved the coconut on top.

The Strawberry Guava Cheesecake was exceptional.

On one visit, my husband bought a box of donuts to work. Now his co-workers are fans of the bakery, too.

A slice of their classic Rainbow Cake. I love the colorful layers and the bomb Hawaiian flavors!
