Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos. Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying. My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again. A May The Peach Be With You and a Mataxa Sidecar Cocktail from Oliver's Lounge.

My husband and I recently visited Oliver's Lounge for drinks. This downtown bar is located in the Mayflower Park Hotel by Westlake Center. They are celebrating 43 years of being in business. Although the hotel has been open since 1927.The lounge and hotel felt classy, upscale, and a little Old World to me. Oliver's Lounge was also Washington's first daylight bar. The floor to ceiling windows look out onto 4th Ave and the bar offers a quiet respite from downtown.

If you visit during Happy Hour they have complimentary appetizers. When we visited they had mini beef tacos with bright red shells. They were pretty tasty and hit the spot. They also give you complimentary roasted peanuts to snack on. For our cocktails, I chose a Peach Be With You and he had a Sidecar. My drink had Gin, Peche de Vigne, mint leaves, a squeeze of lime, and a bit of bubbly. It was the perfect summer beverage and tasted fruity, with just the right amount of mint and lime. His drink was a Metaxa Sidecar with Metaxa Brandy, Cointreau, and fresh lemon juice. This drink was created in 1922 at the Ritz Hotel in Paris. We'd walked by this bar for years and were always curious. I'm so glad we finally stopped in and experienced this classic lounge in Seattle.
