Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Lunch at Deru Market in Kirkland

Warning- this post may make you drool. There's chocolate cake and pizza involved. If you're on a diet I apologize and I hope you get a cheat day soon. Then you can have cake and pizza, too.

I had heard about the slices of cake they serve at Deru Market in Kirkland and they sounded too good to pass up. So to Kirkland we went so our family could have a delicious lunch. We were seated at a nice table outside. I started with a glass of some bubbly and my husband had a beer. Our sons had already had a little lunch at home so we ordered them each a Snickerdoodle cookie to be brought out with our food. Then I thought, what the heck, bring me a slice of the Chocolate Cake, too.

The piece ended up being big enough for four people and enough to eat the following day. We shared a Kale salad and a wood-fired Margherita Pizza. The salad was brimming with freshness and we loved the strawberries and Green Goddess dressing. We went to town on the pizza, savoring every bite. The amount of mozzarella made me very happy, and the crust was just the right thickness. The basil on top awoke my senses, it smelled to good. We both stole bites of the cake while we ate our lunch. The cake itself was soft and full of chocolate flavor. And the frosting was light, yet decadent and rich. The cake really was perfect.

We all enjoyed our meal out in Kirkland and dining outside is always a treat. Plus you can never go wrong with sparkling wine, good pizza, and lots of chocolate cake.
