Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Father's Day and an Anniversary Brunch at RockCreek

To celebrate our Wedding Anniversary and also Father's Day, our family had brunch at RockCreek in Fremont. The owner's favorite place to fly fish is Rock Creek in Montana and when you enter the restaurant there's a huge picture of it. Their menu is focused on globally sourced seafood. They also have fresh ingredients delivered daily. The space reminded me of a rustic Montana lodge with an upstairs loft, but the restaurant also had an urban feel to it.

We were seated on the outdoor patio and luckily, the day was sunny and warm. There's always a  celebratory feeling when dining outside and sipping cocktails. I had a Bellini and my husband had a Bloody Mary. There was a surprise cocktail cherry waiting for me at the bottom of the glass. Yum!

To start, we all shared an order of the Caramelized Apple and Ricotta Beignets. They came with a vanilla bean caramel sauce that was superb. The beignets themselves were hot and fresh and crunchy on the outside. The small apple pieces inside were a delicious touch.

I had seen photos of their cinnamon roll on social media. That's what brought me to RockCreek, let's me honest. The thing is as big as a dinner plate and if you don't want to share, it will take four sittings at least, to polish off. The cinnamon roll had an orange cream cheese frosting that was sweet, tangy, and memorable. It was also topped with lots of toasted pecans for a little crunch. This cinnamon roll made all of my brunch dreams come true.

My husband wanted something lighter so he enjoyed the Veggie Scramble. This dish had fennel, asparagus, maitake, Gruyere, pine nuts, fingerlings, and arugula. Our boys ate some pancakes off of the kid's menu. They enjoyed every bite and gobbled them up.
