Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

A Visit to Deep Dive inside the Spheres

To celebrate our Wedding Anniversary, we got a sitter for our boys and checked out two bars in Downtown Seattle. Our first stop on our date night was Deep Dive. This upscale bar is owned by the Seattle Restaurateur Renee Erickson and is located in the Spheres. This dark and dramatic bar is a speakeasy, which means it feels exclusive and is sort of hidden.

When you enter, there's a hallway that turns and leads you down into the bar. It felt like we were in a submarine, but with nice cocktails and food, and tons of interesting things on display. What I love about Renee Erickson's places are that no detail is forgotten. And the quality of the food and drink is some of the best in the city.

I chose a cocktail called It's Not You It's Me and my husband ordered a Manhattan. The drinks were as pretty as a picture and were also strong. We shared two items to eat, the house made potato chips with Green Goddess Dip and the cheese and honey served with crackers. Both plates were divine and we could have sat there all night, snacking and drinking the refreshing cocktails. They even brought more potato chips since we had some remaining dip left.

Deep Dive is a high end and classy bar, but at the same time it feels comfortable and is a nice hideaway from the busy and bustling downtown.
