Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

A Stay at the Kings Inn San Diego

During out trip to San Diego we stayed at the Kings Inn on Hotel Circle. It wasn't super fancy, but it worked out perfectly for our family. They have free parking, a huge outdoor pool and hot tub, and two restaurants. Plus, it was just the right location for us. Expect for LEGOLAND which is located in Carlsbad, we were no more than fifteen minutes away from everywhere we wanted to go.

The two restaurants were family friendly. One is a Mexican restaurant called The Amigo Spot. We ate there the first night right after we checked in. They have a full bar, which was much needed after a day of travel. I had a Cadillac Margarita, a small size, which ended up being pretty big and packed a punch. We all shared some grub since it was late. We had the Cheese Quesadillas and the Chicken Chimichanga. Both dishes hit the spot and were super tasty.

The other place on site is a popular breakfast joint, The Waffle Spot. They're known for their Churro Waffles so I had to order them, they sounded so good. I'm glad I ordered them because they were the perfect combo of waffles and churros, and the sweet whipped cream on top complimented them perfectly. Our boys were happy with their waffles and maple syrup, and my husband had a nice sized breakfast of the Huevos Rancheros. It was hearty and filled him up for a day of sightseeing. We had breakfast again on our last morning, a Saturday, and the lobby was filled with people waiting.

Not only did we save money by staying at the Kings Inn versus other hotels, but we made good use of the property's amenities and we found our room comfortable. The bathroom wasn't the biggest, but the other positives made up for that.
