Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Dinner at Henry's Tavern in Sodo

After walking around downtown Seattle for two hours and taking in the Christmas lights, we were more than ready for dinner. We decided to try out Henry's Tavern in Sodo, located next to Safeco Field. I always thought it was a bar and therefore not family friendly, but I saw on ad on Facebook advertising free hot chocolate for kids. Then I checked out their website and even saw a kids menu. Their regular menu looked good with a variety of choices featuring yummy sounding appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and more. That sounded too good to not check out.

We were seated right away and I started with an Old Fashioned cocktail. It was strong and I enjoyed the Maraschino cherry on top and crushed in the drink. I was really hungry so I went with the Tempura Fried Cheese Curds with Pepper Jelly and the Twisted Giant Bavarian Soft Pretzel with Cheddar Ale and Onion dip and Creamy Gorgonzola dip. I figured my sons would want in on that so I decided to order both appetizers. For some greens in my life I also ordered the Pear, Walnut, and Prosciutto Salad. My husband had the Fish and Chips and my sons shared an order of the Grilled Cheese.

I really enjoyed all three of my dishes and fully got my grub on. All of that fresh air and exercise walking those Seattle hills will do that. Regardless of that, I still only ate about half of everything and was able to finish the rest the next day. I found the service to be quick and accommodating. I was happy to see lots of other families also dining, so we didn't stick out too much with our sometimes rambunctious kiddos.

So if you're in the area and need to refuel, check out Henry's Tavern. There's a full bar, nice booths, an a pretty big menu with something for everyone.
