Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

A Visit to Frolic at the Motif Hotel

A rooftop bar experience with my husband sounded just right for our date night. And luckily for us, the rain cleared and the clouds parted and everything worked out for our time at Frolic Kitchen and Bar, located on the 5th floor of the Motif Hotel in Seattle.

We entered through the lobby of the hotel and headed up in the elevators to the 5th floor. There we found a long hallway leading to a large indoor restaurant and bar with doors opening up to the outdoor patio. A spacious area awaited us with ample seating choices, fireplaces, and views of downtown. There was even ping pong tables and shuffleboard. We chose some seats at the long counter right by the fireplaces, since there was a little chill in the air from the earlier rain.

The food menu was small but we just wanted to share a couple of appetizers and each have a cocktail. The glass of wine served with a popsicle from Seattle Pops caught my eye. So I chose a glass of the Campo Viejo Rose Brut with a Watermelon popsicle. My husband had a beer and a shot, his go-to drinks of choice when we go out. For food we shared the Cheeseburger Sliders and the Sweet and Salty Popcorn. I loved the whimsical presentation of my drink and it tasted even better. The popsicle tasted like a piece of actual watermelon and was juicy and delicious. The Rose Brut was crisp and bubbly and was really chilled from the popsicle. It was a true summer cocktail for sure.

The eats were right on the money, too. Although the sliders were small, they were tasty little things and left us wanting more. I liked the popcorn because I'm a big sweet and salty fan and I always enjoy trying new flavors of popcorn. The sweet part was cinnamon but the salty aspect had a kick to it that I couldn't guess. All I know is that it tasted good and paired well with my drink. The whole thing was really fun. From the cool views, my popsicle wine, and the cheeseburgers and popcorn, it was really all good.
