Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Macarons at Laduree on Robson St.

One regret I have from my trip to Paris in 2011 was not trying some macarons from Laduree. When we flew out of Charles De Gaulee Airport they had a location but since it was early morning they weren't yet open. So when I was researching where to go for desserts in Vancouver, I happily discovered they recently opened a Laduree store on Robson St.

Laduree is a world-renowned French luxury patisserie. They were founded in Paris in 1892. Today you can find macarons everywhere but they were one of the first places to sell them. They also have a tea room where you can get a nice fancy lunch, high tea, and delectable looking desserts.

The location on Robson St. was smaller than I thought it would be, but the macarons still sparkled like jewels and I imagined them saying "pick me, please". The salesperson was very helpful and kind, going over the different flavors and making sure the four of us each got the macaron we wanted.

I chose the Black Currant Voilet and my husband chose the Mint. Our boys picked theirs by what color they liked the best in the display. So they picked a Raspberry and a Passion Fruit. The macarons tasted pretty standard to all of the other ones we've tried and they were also pricey. But how fun that Canada now has some locations and Paris is willing to share their delicacies to us in North America.
