Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Where to satisfy your sweet tooth in Vancouver

Vancouver is a food destination in its own right. The seafood and sushi selections are endless and the Asian food is some of the best in North America. But what happens when you want something sweet? You're in luck because Vancouver's dessert scene is also hopping these days. You'll have a tough time deciding where to go. Below are some ideas to get you started for satisfying your sweet tooth. Here are five spots for desserts I've visited during several trips to Vancouver. And since I'm traveling there next month, I plan on hitting up even more places. Stay tuned and prepare to get hungry!
First up is Thomas Haas. If you want high quality chocolates, French pastries, macarons, and coffee, then this is the place. There are several locations in Vancouver. I visited their location on West Broadway. And if you're a hot chocolate lover, you have to order one here! Click here to see the post from my visit.
The cupcakes at this Vancouver chain, Cupcakes, is way worth a visit. I really liked my carrot cake cupcake with cream cheese frosting. They have a nice variety of flavors and the frosting is thick and sweet, if that's your thing. See my post here for more about Cupcakes.
If you want top notch donuts in Vancouver, look no further than Cartems Donuterie. They're not overly big, but at this donut shop its more about quality than quantity. If they have the Canadian Whiskey Bacon donut available, don't hesitate to try it. If you enjoy maple and bacon, then this donut is for you. For more about Cartems and to read more about my visit, click here.

Casa Gelato is worth checking out because they have over 218 gelato flavors! Have you ever seen that many at once? And you can sample as many flavors as your heart desires until you find your favorite. There are many scoopers on hand to help. Go here to see my post from my visit.
And last on my list is Popbar, located inside Metropolis Metrotown mall in Burnaby. This place is fun because you can choose any topping to your gelato bar. Not feeling like gelato? Try a sorbet or frozen yogurt bar. If you want to read more about my experience you can go here!
