A Visit to Rachel's Ginger Beer

Rachel's Ginger Beer is legendary in Seattle and I can't believe it took me this long to visit one of their locations. We checked out the Capital Hill location because its the closest one to where we live and we also wanted to eat. RGB teamed up with Sunset Fried Chicken, so not only can you sip some amazing drinks, but you can get your grub on, too. The space is dark at night and has a bar feel, but all ages are welcome. You order your drinks at the counter and grab a table. If you want food, you order at the Sunset Fried Chicken counter to the right of RGB's area and they'll bring it to your table.

I was excited to try a beverage and also a little nervous because of all the choices and was worried I wouldn't know what to order. But I knew I wanted a boozy float, so it wasn't hard to choose a RGB flavor and then I had my choice of either dark rum or whiskey. I went with a Blood Orange Boozy Float with whiskey. I also ordered a cold brew float to share with my husband. He chose a Lagar and a shot of whiskey. The pours seemed to be really heavy, and I don't think that's a bad thing. My boozy float turned out to be a wise choice. I loved the creamy, vanilla soft serve on top, and the blood orange RGB was on point. The whiskey gave it a nice kick and the drink was totally on point. Our cold brew was strong and I really liked the ice cream on top. It made the coffee really creamy and sweet, just how I like it.

Then we were starving so I headed over to the counter to order up some eats. My husband and I both selected the OG, the original chicken sandwich with dill pickles, tangy cabbage slaw, and mayo, on a toasted bun. We also ordered some hand cut fries with spicy mayo and some General Tso chicken wings. When I took a bite of my sandwich I was impressed. It was one of the best I've tasted. The chicken was so thick and the pickle so crunchy. The slaw was also a little crunchy and sour in the best of ways. The bun wasn't too thick and held everything in place perfectly. The fries were a nice thickness, if not a little too salty. Beware of the spicy mayo, that stuff will get you. The wings were more for my husband, but I tried one and they were also pretty hot. But that was okay, cause I had some RGB to drink and that stuff is the ultimate refresher.
